For the first time in my life, I don't do sports. I don't excersise, I don't go for a 10k run, I don't go cycling for a 100k, I don't do sit ups, push ups, squads nor jumping jacks (remembering the nineties). But for the first time in my life, my weight has dropped. I got on the scale and it said 53.9 kilos. Never before - since the age of ehm 14 maybe - has my weight been below 54 kilos. It made me proud. And it got me thinking.
So no sports, but five times a week Ashtanga Yoga in the morning. Getting up at 5.30 AM, without eating breakfast, going to the studio, practice Half Primary, than go home and eat oatmeal with some fruit and I am off to work. When it is about 10 AM, I am already hungry again. I'll have a banana or an apple and have some rice waffles. At lunch, I'll eat bread with hummus or peanut butter, or sometimes I'll eat some leftovers from yesterdays dinner.
Dinner is vegetarian: rice with vegetables, pasta, soup, curry, potatoes or bean burgers. I almost cook every day. Sometimes I'll order french fries, or pizza. After dinner, I drink tea. Before bed I'll have an apple, or a bit of soy yogurt. When it's weekend I sometimes have a glass of wine and eat a bag of chips (I cannot eat half a bag. I eat a bag of chips or I don't eat chips).
So it is not that I am on a diet. I am not counting calories.
Since practicing Ashtanga (and skipping any other form of exercise), I eat vegetarian. Not completely vegan, since sometimes I have mozzarella and pecorino when I have pasta. I am low on alcohol, lower than - ehm since the age of 16 I guess - ever in my life. But I increased the eating of sweets. I eat chocolate almost every day. And in the weekend I eat cake. Carrot cake, apple pie, brownies. I skipped coffee (I drank coffee with lots of milk) but replaced it with chai tea latte, which I drink with soy milk.
Maybe I should write a book about it. How to get in shape without dieting and exercising. You do have to get up at 5.30 AM every day, but hey, you'll get a toned physic and the love of God in return.
